Riddick was considered an accident when he was born. His mother was a pureblood that had been in the land of muggles and had gotten drunk. It turns out later that a muggle that had gotten her drunk had impregnated her.
When Riddick was born, his own mother strangled him for she could not bear the shame of having a mudblood child. After dumping her child in the dumpster of a corner store, she was never seen again. Riddick only managed to survive because a homeless woman had found him while scrounging through the garbage and took him in as her own child. For Riddick as a young boy, life was difficult since he had no home. Every day was a fight for survival. For his age, he got by nicely however. He had a good talent for sneaking around and stealing food to eat. His foster mother eventually died of old age, leaving him to survive on his own.
When he reached age 11, he was invited to enroll in Hogwarts. At first, he did not believe it at all. That was until a wizard came to greet him personally. Of course, Riddick still didn’t believe the stuff until the wizard had shown him some things. He immediately allowed the wizard to take him to get his equipment. Since he did not have any money to afford equipment, he was forced to take out a loan from Gringgots, which he would need to pay back in the future.
As a student at Hogwarts, Riddick still hid behind his cold personality and this made him a loner. He was not a good student, and barely managed to pass his courses. On top of this, he was constantly sneaking around the school after dark. Unfortunately for the teachers, they never managed to catch him in the act.
When Riddick finally graduated, he got into the trade of Hunting Dangerous Magical Creatures. It was risky, but it was very profitable which was what he needed since he had to pay off a loan. As he gained more experience in the trade, he soon became a widely known Hunter and even got himself a chocolate frog card because he took down a dragon. Later in the years, he had his eyes get a permanent charm so that he could see in the dark and make hunting a little easier.
On one hunting trip, while tracking down a beast that he had been hired to kill, he had accidentally killed a wizard. When he was taken to court, he was charged for Third Degree Murder of a Wizard, and several cases of Poaching. He denied the poaching, claiming it was self-defense that ended with the creature being killed. He did however plead guilty to the murderer.
Due to the way he described how the murder happened and the way he acted, he was deemed a dangerous individual and hauled off to Azkaban. He remained there for about a year and a half before the headmaster of Hogwarts, Dumbledore, visited him. He was given an offer. He could leave Azkaban, but he would need to teach his skills at his school, or he could remain in Azkaban for the rest of his sentence. He immediately accepted without a second thought.

Joseph Masters: One of the few people that Riddick actually trusts in the world. The two were friends ever since he was in Hogwarts. For a long while, Riddick had lost all trust for Joseph when it was him that caught him, and put him in Azkaban for the crimes he had commited. While Riddick has talked with Joseph at Hogwarts, the trust for him has slowly begun to come back, and the two are now friends like they were as teens.
Marik Ishtar: More or less a mutual friend of Joseph. At first, the two really didn't get along that well. But over time, they have developed a sort of abusive friendship that keeps both of them entertained.

Samus Aran: Samus is someone that Riddick originally favored from the beginning because she appeared to have quite the spirit. Later down the year, Riddick offered Samus a place to live sice she apparantly didn't have one, which has caused a bit of a friendship to rise between them. Now, the two have frequent chats and are even drinking buddies. And although Riddick denies it, there is some deep hidden feeling for her within his being.

Reira Bell: Another student that Riddick favors. Mainly because she seems to hold a large amount of respect for him since she also defended him when he had been arrested for false charges.
